Huskies weather the storm

PHILADELPHIA - For the second straight year, UConn got more than they bargained for from Temple. Unlike last year's controversial 22-17 win over the Owls, UConn trailed the entire way in a driving rainstorm. But a fourth-quarter comeback and Donald Brown's 7-yard overtime touchdown run gave the Huskies (2-0) a 12-9 win over the Owls (1-1) at Lincoln Financial Field. (0) comments

Tyler Lorenzen picked up a ball and started to warm-up. For all he knew, UConn was going be down 23-22 and would get the ball back with just 37 seconds left in the game. For all he knew, Temple had just pulled off one of the most improbable plays in recent memory. (0) comments

UConn finally got a former national champion to come to Rentschler Field. While the athletic department was heavily criticized after negotiating a nine-game series with Notre Dame that featured all the Huskies' "home games" in New Jersey or Massachusetts, the school announced Thursday a two-year agreement to play Tennessee in 2015 and 2016. UConn and Penn State have a lot in common. Both programs have reached powerhouse status and both boast high profile, long-tenured head coaches that land All-American-caliber recruits with regularity. The two teams are also linked by a not-so pleasant distinction - each suffered a dream-dashing defeat at the hands of eventual National Champion North Carolina at last year's NCAA Final Four. After being sent home in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last season, the road to redemption for the men's basketball team features two games against Big East foes Pittsburgh and Notre Dame, a trip to Virgin Islands and late-season home date with Michigan. (0) comments

This weekend the women s soccer team (1-2) welcomes the Yale Bulldogs (0-0) and Boston University (1-2) to Morrone Stadium.  The Huskies (1-2) take on the Bulldogs (0-0) on Friday at 7 p.m. and then play the Terriers on Sunday at 1 p.m. After frustrating loses to Central Connecticut State and Florida, the team looks to get back on track early in the season. Coming into this season, the men's soccer team made a choice to play its first four games in a matter of eight days. The No. 3 Huskies (2-0-1) will play that fourth match this weekend when they host Boston University (0-2-0) on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Morrone Stadium. (0) comments

After getting off to a 3-0 start, the volleyball team hopes to continue its winning ways as it travels to Albany, N.Y. this weekend for the University of Albany tournament. The Huskies will be in action first against Wright State at 5 p.m. Saturday evening. (0) comments

Both the men and women's teams will kick off their seasons this weekend when they head to the Fairfield Invitational. The invitational contrasts from the matches during the spring season in that players play in a larger tournament with flights filled by players from multiple schools. (0) comments
