Weathering the storm

Justice not served as Huskies slip by Temple in overtime with Brown's touchdown run

PHILADELPHIA - On the first two plays in overtime, Donald Brown carried the ball for 10 yards, then eight yards. On the third, he barreled over a Temple defender, found daylight and made a last-gasp lunge for the goal line. It was the game's only touchdown, and just about the prettiest play in an ugly game. PHILADELPHIA - Tropical Storm Hanna hit Philadelphia with a vengeance Saturday. The rain and wind started just before kickoff and intensified throughout the game. The weather created numerous challenges for everyone - especially the quarterbacks. The result was a low-scoring, defensive struggle. (0) comments

Stalemate at Morrone

Men's soccer draws Boston U, despite Stahl's red card

Head coach Ray Reid knew the men's soccer team was in for a tough game against Boston University this weekend. He was not mistaken. The Terriers played the Huskies to a 0-0 tie in front of 2,815 Sunday night at Morrone Stadium. Although UConn (2-0-2) was able to total 14 shots, many of them came in the first half. (0) comments

Men's soccer: Scoreless streak not a worry for Priestley, Pezza

It has been 232 minutes of accumulated playing time since a men's soccer player scored a goal for the Huskies. The last time UConn scored a goal - not including own goals - was in the 88th minute against Tulsa on Aug. 31. But even after 110 scoreless minutes Sunday night against Boston University, the Huskies aren't worried about it. (0) comments

Bildstein, Yi clutch in women's soccer win over Yale

The UConn women's soccer team split their two matches this weekend, winning Friday's game against Yale, 2-1 in double-overtime, while dropping Sunday's match, 1-0, against Boston University. Friday's win came in dramatic fashion. With 3.1 seconds left on the clock, UConn (2-3) was awarded a free kick just outside Yale's penalty box because of a handball. (0) comments

Kleinhands lifts field hockey past No. 6 Penn State

In the days leading up to Saturday's pivotal match-up with Big Ten power Penn State, it was unclear whether UConn senior midfielder Jennifer Kleinhans would suit up and take the field. Kleinhans, the Big East Defensive Player of the Year and a second-team All-American selection in 2007, suffered a concussion in last weekend's season opener against Sacred Heart. (0) comments

With less than five minutes to play in the first half, UConn made a costly turnover in their defensive zone that appeared to lead to a Penn State goal. To everyone except Husky goalkeeper Andrea Mainiero, that is. "We had a bad pass in the defensive zone and really handed the ball to Penn State and so she made a great, great save," said head coach Nancy Stevens. (0) comments

in the first 10-minute overtime period. In the second overtime, Bildstein had a chance to be the hero again, but her shot with 7:30 left in the period missed the Yale goal by inches. With 2:05 left in the game, Yi, UConn's leading goal scorer from last season, fired a shot from outside the penalty box over the Yale goalkeeper, completing the Huskies' improbable comeback and sending the UConn sideline into a frenzy. Game of the Week College Football - No. 15 BYU 28, Washington 27: Washington quarterback Jake Locker scored a touchdown on a three-yard run with two seconds left, but his ensuing celebration penalized the Huskies 15 yards on the PAT attempt. BYU blocked the PAT to prevent the nail-biter from going into overtime, staving off the potential upset. (0) comments
