To show that recent issues pertaining to campus safety have not gone unnoticed, groups around UConn are working towards raising community awareness about how to be safe at school. The Women's Center, the Residence Hall Association (RHA) and sororities such as Sigma Gamma Rho are all doing their part to get involved and get others at UConn to make a change. (0) comments

The past vice presidential debate between Republican candidate Sarah Palin and Democratic candidate Joe Biden has received a lot of attention­ - not just from the media, but from UConn students as well. With this election being particularly significant, many UConn students tuned in Thursday to learn about the policies, promises, and voting records of the Democratic and Republican tickets. With the economy taking a plunge, the recent assaults on campus and the always-stressful exam season underway, the mental health of many students could be declining, according to Barry Schreier, UConn's director of counseling and mental health services. Upperclassmen may be worried about how difficult it will be to find a job due to the weakening economy and freshman may be still transitioning from high school. (0) comments

Independent presidential candidate and Connecticut native Ralph Nader held a rally at E.O. Smith High School Saturd­­ay night, where he spoke for two and a half hours, heavily criticizing the Democrats and Republicans for their corporate ties and encouraging students to become more active in politics.
