There were all sorts of strange sights around Morrone Stadium Friday night. Laminated white signs, displayed with the bold lettering of the words "Tickets Sold Out," were posted at all the ticket booths. There were the Fox Soccer Channel television cameras. (0) comments

A bad loss on every front

Saturday night's game against North Carolina was kind of like the movie "Good Luck, Chuck." First, it was boring. Then it got kind of funny. Then it got really bad and I had to turn it off. How bad was it? Jonathan the Husky pulled the plug on the field lights just so he didn't have to watch the rest of the game. (1) comment

The UConn women's softball team continued their undefeated fall season Saturday with a 15-1 thrashing of Maine. The game was the second half of a doubleheader which began with a win over Southern Connecticut earlier in the afternoon. The Huskies showed no signs of fatigue against the Black Bears, as they combined solid hitting with excellent pitching to win their fifth straight game of the fall season. (0) comments

WVU knocks off UConn, again

The stage was set for a UConn victory. Morrone Stadium was sold out, fans had donated over 1,000 balls to the Kick for Nick Foundation, the match was on national television and there was even a small pep band. The Huskies were set to avenge last year's loss to West Virginia. (0) comments

Despite UConn defeating Maine by 14 runs Saturday, one player's contributions stood out. Senior third baseman Jillian Ortega was a focal point of the offense, who led the rout of the Black Bears. After she went 0-for-4 in the first game of the doubleheader, a win over Southern Connecticut, Ortega said she got on track for the second game. (0) comments

Game of the Week - West Virginia 1, Men's Soccer 0 (Friday): In front of a sold-out home crowd, the Huskies dropped their second Big East game, despite out-shooting the Mountaineers, 16-4. UConn is now 3-2 in the conference, good for second in the cleverly named Blue Division, behind Notre Dame. (0) comments

Game of the Week - Boston Red Sox 7, L.A. Angels of Anaheim 5, ALDS Game 2, (Friday): Boston went up 5-1 early only to have the Angels claw back to tie the game at five. How do the Red Sox respond? With J.D. Drew's home run, which proved to be the game winner, and against one of the best closers in baseball. (0) comments
