Opera, rap show 'Little Red Riding Hood'

UConn Opera Theater brought the well-known folk tale "Little Red Riding Hood" to life on the Jorgensen stage Sunday. The show was performed twice, at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., to an audience of excited youngsters and their parents. The one-act performance used the same beloved characters from the original story, but with a more modern, less frightening feel overall. (0) comments

Sun Ra Archestra engages audience with eclectic music

The Sun Ra Arkestra brought freeform jazz accompanied by electric beats to von der Mehden Recital Hall on Friday night. The Arkestra took the stage at 8 p.m., wearing elaborate multi-colored sequin costumes and head dresses. Curiosity about the band brought a number of students to the show. (1) comment

When Miley Cyrus' new song, '7 Things I Hate About You' was orignally written, it was nothing more than cheesy replica of a scene in "10 Things I Hate About You" where Kat Stratford stands in front of the class and recites all the reasons she hates (but loves) Patrick Verona. (13) comments

Pumpkins, pumpkins everywhere

Halloween was celebrated on Fairfield Way with the 2nd annual Pumpkin Fest held by Alpha Lambda Delta, which ran from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday. The Pumpkin Fest celebrates Halloween's icon, the pumpkin, with a pumpkin pie eating contest and a pumpkin carving contest, although this year the pie eating contest had to be cancelled because it was not feasible at this time due to problems with Dining Services. It is currently a "Greatest Hits" title. The second entry in the franchise, "Resistance 2," will be available on tomorrow. (9) comments

It's irrational, but I was always terrified of the day the bomb would drop. That ghastly dream scene in "Terminator 2" is still burned into the reptilian part of my brain. I spent my sleepless 6-year-old nights shivering in my bed, but I wasn't listening for bumps in the night - I was straining my ears for the Russian bombers. (1) comment

Everyone knows about King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Historians have argued the accuracy of his historical existence but one thing is clear - his stories are legendary. The 2004 "King Arthur" with Clive Owen attempted to go the route of "Troy" and try a realistic approach to the character. (0) comments

Returning to the Co-op for another get-out-of-your-seat-and-dance rock 'n roll performance, the faculty band 'Off Yer Rockers' plans to raise money and spirits tonight from 4 to 6 p.m. The performance will feature the UConn faculty talents of Davita Silfen Glasberg (sociology; vocals), Harry Frank (chemistry; vocals and bass guitar), Eric Jordan (mechanical engineering; drums), David Miller (psychology; vocals and rhythm guitar), Ernie Zirakzadeh (political science; lead guitar).
