Men's soccer begins defense of Big East Tournament Title

The men's soccer team's regular season has been anything but easy. With a difficult schedule, offensive inconsistency and a season long bout with injuries, the dream season of last year was hardly repeated. Despite all the hardships, No. 16 UConn (9-3-6, 6-3-2 Big East) still managed to finish the season second in the Big East Blue divison and earned a first round bye in the Big East Tournament. When the volleyball team traveled to Washington a year ago to take on Georgetown, they found a struggling Hoya squad. The Hoyas entered last year's match against the Huskies as losers of 14 of their last 15 games. A year later, Georgetown (12-11, 5-5) is out of the Big East cellar and has made some noise with wins over Pittsburgh and Marquette. (0) comments

Five weeks after falling to the then-No. 11 Louisville Cardinals, the Huskies (16-2, 4-1) will look to return the favor this weekend in the Big East semifinals in Storrs. The last time the Huskies took the ice, over two weeks ago on Oct. 25, they were handed a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Princeton Tigers in New Jersey. Following two weeks of practice and fine-tuning, UConn (5-3-2, 2-1-0 Hockey East) will look to get back on track in a Hockey East matchup with the Maine Black Bears (3-3-0, 0-2-0) "They're starting to get sick of me in practice," coach Heather Linstad joked. The Huskies (2-4, 2-0 Atlantic Hockey) were dominated in their season-opening trip to Alaska but returned to the Freitas Ice Forum to stage their first-ever sweep of conference foe Army 12 days later. Doty makes her case for starting job

By Wednesday, women's basketball coach Geno Auriemma had narrowed the race for the final starting spot down to three contenders: Sophomore Lorin Dixon and freshmen Caroline Doty and Tiffany Hayes. In Thursday night's exhibition win over Division II Stonehill College, it was Doty, who Auriemma said has been the most consistent of the three players vying for that last guard spot, that got the honor.
