Huskies take one of Cats' lives

For the first 39 minutes of Wednesday night's match-up against No. 23 Villanova, third-ranked UConn outplayed the fired-up Wildcats squad without Hasheem Thabeet. Thabeet was a non-factor most of the way due to foul trouble, but when it mattered, the reigning National Defensive Player of the Year came up with two game-saving rejections as UConn (18-1, 6-1 Big East) defeated Villanova (14-4, 2-3), 89-83, in front of 15,385 fans at the XL Center. A quiet night for Reynolds

Huskies hold Reynolds in check In his first two seasons at Villanova, it's safe to say Scottie Reynolds owned UConn. Two years ago, in an 89-75 Wildcat win, Reynolds torched the Huskies to the tune of 40 points, a Gampel Pavilion record. Reynolds scored team-high18 points in last season's 67-65 victory as well. The horn was buzzing, fans were making their way to the exits and the Huskies on the floor were huddled around each other celebrating their victory over No. 21 Villanova. That is, all the Huskies except one. A.J. Price walked alone and along the baseline in front of the student section and simply pointed out to a sea of white and blue. (0) comments

Why does Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski have to go and open his mouth? I'm perfectly fine hating the abstract concept that is Duke basketball, rather than targeting someone or something specific. And yet Coach K, like a movie villain, simply cannot restrain himself from antagonizing those who live outside the ACC's bubble. (6) comments

Lebron James is the best basketball player in the known world. He is an unstoppable super-human that can get to the rim any time he pleases, and somehow makes an average team look great. Put him on the Lakers and they would never lose. Bryant Bryant is good but he will never be enough to make a team a champion. (29) comments

On Wednesday night, Ater Majok sat behind the UConn bench in black corduroys with a matching black sweater vest that fit snugly against his 6-foot-10-inch frame. Even though he wasn't wearing the UConn uniform that he had hoped to have at this point in the season, Majok was all smiles. (0) comments

Hockey. It is a sport that has increasingly lost popularity on a national level. The lockout in the 2004-05 season diminished its appeal to many fans. Since then, the sport has tried to revive the fan base, using special events like the Outdoor Classic to draw people to the games. (0) comments

The Arizona Cardinals are in the Super Bowl? The same team that's been one of the laughing stocks of the NFL since the merger? That's right. Thanks to a great receiver, battle-tested quarterback, resurrected running game and larcenous defense, the Cardinals are the best football team in the NFC. (0) comments
