Connecticut currently faces a massive budget deficit - a $1.35 billion gap between planned state governmental expenditures and actual state tax revenue. Such a mighty challenge calls for a courageous, intelligent response from state leaders. Connecticut needs a fiscal Churchill - but it'll be lucky to get a Chamberlain. (0) comments
Melissa White goes to York College in Pennsylvania and her boyfriend of 14 months, Warren Inzinga, lives five hours away in Connecticut. They make their long-distance relationship work. They often go four to six weeks without seeing each other, so they do things together over the phone and try to talk on a daily basis. (1) comment
Last week, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for President Bashir of Sudan on seven charges, including war crimes and crimes against humanity. Before the warrant was issued, African and Arab nations expressed fears that such a warrant would destabilize the whole region, inflame the conflict in Darfur and threaten the fragile peace deal that ended decades of civil war between northern and southern Sudan. In support of cutting some bus service: Cindy Luo • Every service on campus costs money, and we need to prioritize. Reliable class transportation for students is a high priority, and should not be cut. • Many students don't have time to get from class to class (particularly on days with only 10 minutes between classes) without taking a bus. USG's petition for higher tuition increase hurts students' ability to pay I would like to extend a personal vote of "no confidence" in USG in response to their recent recommendation for an 8.6 percent tuition increase. HOW, I ask, is higher education going to be made available for students when tuition is skyrocketing? By approving reckless spending during tight fiscal times (the paintball funding being a prime example) and acting without thoughtful consideration, USG does not represent the best interests of the student body.
