Congressman Joe Courtney announced on May 21 that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services awarded a $46,285 grant to UConn's graduate nursing program. The federal grant is intended to reduce costs for students participating in Advanced Education Nursing Traineeships. (3) comments
UConn will host over 20,000 guests from around the world in June 2011 for the World Scholar-Athlete Games and World Youth Peace Summit, sponsored by the International Institute for Sport (IIS). IIS has worked in cooperation with the United Nations to bring these two momentous events to our campus as well as the greater Hartford area. (3) comments
A UConn 2009 graduate passed away only two weeks after he received his diploma. Brian Costello died on May 25, due to medical complications caused by a blood clot blocking the airway in his lungs, according to Costello's brother-in-law, Chris Moyer. Costello graduated from the School of Business with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and was enrolled in the Master of Science Program in Accounting at UConn. (1) comment
Whitney Dining Hall will remain open on weekends this coming school year, according to a May 18 press release from UConn's Department of Dining Services. Dining Services had originally planned to close the dining hall on weekends because of a university-wide request to locate efficiencies and cost-savings. (3) comments
The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) closed two Connecticut state beaches May 27. Increased bacteria found in the water during weekly testing by department officials between Memorial Day and Labor Day led to the closings, according to the DEP's Web Site. (1) comment
