The man who attempted to abduct a female UConn student on Horsebarn Hill Road yesterday has been arrested and identified as Bruce Ursin, 57, of Ashford.

A loaded .45 caliber pistol was found in Ursin’s truck and police have determined that he intended to commit sexual assault, according to a press release from UConn Police.

The student told police that she was walking along Horsebarn Hill Road when a man dressed in camouflage driving a newer-model Toyota pickup told her to get into the vehicle, according to the press release. The man, later identified as Ursin, was wearing a mask and held a pistol on his lap when he told her to get into his truck. The student ran from Ursin and called the police, who responded immediately.

After an emergency email and text alert was sent to all UConn students and employees describing Ursin’s truck and physical appearance, a community member saw the truck in Ashford and called the police, who subsequently arrested him on Cushman Road, the press release said.

UConn Police had also obtained images of the truck on campus security cameras and were able to identify the owner by the license plate number.

Ursin is currently being held on a $1,000,000 bond and will appear at Rockville Superior Court today. He is charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault, first-degree kidnapping with a firearm, threatening, weapons in a motor vehicle and breach of peace.
