University, State Inspectors Find Safety Features To Be Adequate

After inspections yesterday morning, Charter Oak Suites have been deemed livable for the time being. According to Vice President for Public and Environmental Safety Robert Hudd, state and UConn building inspectors and fire marshals inspected the complex to "see if it had enough safety features for people to keep living in it.

With textbook prices climbing to new heights, many students have been exploring alternate ways of purchasing the materials they need for classes. A recent annual report by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) said textbook prices for four-year public learning institutions have risen at double the rate of inflation for the last two decades, trailing the 7 percent rises in tuition at about 6 percent.

UConn guards Marcus Williams and A.J. Price were arrested in late August and charged in connection with the investigation of the theft of four laptop computers from university residences at the beginning of the summer. According to a press release from university police, Williams, 19, of Compton, Calif.

The Daily Campus, UConn's student newspaper, was the victim of a robbery of computer and computer and photo equipment totaling over $20,000 on Aug. 19. The burglary, at The Daily Campus Building located at 11 Dog Lane in Storrs was reported to UConn police on Friday, Aug.
