It looks like hip-hop fans have something else to be excited about this Spring Weekend.
In a surprise announcement yesterday from SUBOG Concert Chair Beth Cheney, legendary rap duo Method Man & Redman have been added as openers to this year's Spring Weekend concert April 26 at 8 p.m.
Already scheduled to perform at Gampel Pavilion are co-headliners T-Pain and Flo Rida.
"We really wanted a rap show," said Cheney. "We had one in 2005, and then we had two rock-indie shows, so we wanted to put balance back into it."
Method Man and Redman may be recognized from their 2001 film "How High," but it's their track record in the hip-hop industry that has long since made them famous.
Method Man began his career in 1993 as a member of hip-hop supergroup Wu-Tang Clan. The group has released five albums to date including their latest, 2007's "36 Chambers." As with all the other members of the group, Method Man has had a successful solo career and is arguably the most well known member. To date the rapper also known as Tical, has released four solo albums. Some of his larger singles include "Bring The Pain" and "What's Happenin'" featuring Busta Rhymes.
Redman, whose career stretches as far back as Method Man's, has received critical acclaim for his work, but remains more popular with only the most enthusiastic hip-hop fans. He's better known for hit songs like "Smash Sumthin," "Let's Get Dirty" and his guest spot on Christina Aguilera's "Dirrty."
The two collaborated on the 1999 album "Blackout!" which was well received by critics and fans alike.
In addition, T-Pain will be performing with fellow Nappy Boy Entertainment artists Tay Dizm, J Lyriq and female group Sophia Fresh.
DJ Bigg Mann from radio station Hot 93.7 will be emceeing the concert.
Lottery numbers will be available in the Student Union along Union Street starting March 31 through April 3; times for purchasing tickets will be posted on April 9 and will be available to buy April 14. All left over tickets will be on sale for students who did not get a lottery number from April 15 to 25. Students will be limited to purchasing 4 tickets.
Doors open at 7 p.m. the day of the concert and the show will begin at 8.

Method Man and Redman are great, they have proven themselves and have a whole album that is great, Blackout! They've both been successful for a long time, while t-pain is just a fad right now, and will not last for long. (Continued…)
