President Hogan leads a procession from Jorgensen Center to a barbeque celebration in Fairfield Way following his inauguration as UConn's 14th president.

Sunday afternoon at 4:30, following President Hogan's official inauguration, Fairfield Way and Dow Field hosted a barbeque free to all who were willing to cope with the cold air and brisk wind.

The after-inaugural event offered free hot dogs, hamburgers, Dairy Bar ice cream and other snacks to attendees. Also present at the event were performances from the UConn Marching Band and other live music. Stilt walkers wandered up and down the area, which was peppered with people folding balloons into elaborate shapes.

One attendee, 6th-semester molecular cellular biology major Cassandra Huizenga, said that the event was fun despite the slightly unpleasant weather, but that she was disappointed that she could not find Hogan in the large throngs of people.

"I would have liked to have met him," she said. "He seems great and really student-oriented."

Another attendee, Brian Jones, a 6th-semester history major, agreed.

"It's a very festive event," he said. "It seems like the community really supports Hogan. I think we all have really high expectations for him."
