Zach Frazer practiced with the first-team offense Saturday due to Tyler Lorenzen's injury.

Tyler Lorenzen is a mobile quarterback.

After all, he rushed for 604 yards on just 113 carries last season. For a man who stands 6-foot-5 and weighs 240 pounds, Lorenzen moves rather gracefully in the open field.

But Lorenzen was anything but graceful in last Thursday's practice when he planted his foot to throw and subsequently rolled his ankle. The injury kept him out of the team's scrimmage on Saturday and may make him unavailable for next Saturday's Blue and White spring game.

"I told him he's a non-athlete and a klutz," head coach Randy Edsall joked.

With Lorenzen sidelined, Zach Frazer and Cody Endres took all of the reps in Saturday's full-practice scrimmage. Frazer threw two interceptions, the first of which was a 5-yard pass over the middle that landed in the arms of safety Robert Vaughn. Shortly after, he was picked off by defensive end Cody Brown on an attempted screen pass.

When asked what Frazer specifically needs to improve on, Edsall replied "I don't know if we have enough time to go through that right now."

Edsall went on to explain that Frazer has mainly struggled with getting his shoulders squared towards his target, which has hindered his accuracy throughout the spring. Despite the so-so performance, Edsall said Frazer is the No. 2 man right now.

Endres, who worked with the second unit, looked impressive at times, but still has a long way to go, according to his head coach. The strong-armed, 6-foot-4 redshirt freshman connected with wide receiver Kevin Poles for two long touchdown passes, including a nicely thrown fade to the corner of the end-zone.

A Sherr Thing

Donald Brown, who is slimmed down about 10 pounds this spring, looks primed for a breakout season. Andre Dixon has added some strength and is running tougher than he ever has. Add in grind-it-out freshman Kelmetrus "Meme" Wylie and speedster Robbie Frey, and UConn has itself a nice stable of running backs.

But that hasn't deterred walk-on Nathan Sherr from turning some heads this spring. A 5-foot-10, 198-pound tailback out of Austin Prep in Reading, Mass., Sherr received the most carries of all running backs in Saturday's scrimmage. His vision, shiftiness and natural instincts as a runner have him poised to succeed in Division I football despite not receiving any scholarship offers after high school.
