The heads of the Bears were constantly on a swivel on Wednesday as the UConn softball team hit balls over, by and occasionally through their defense.

A consistent "ping" was heard throughout the game, as eight different UConn players collected 12 total hits, resulting in seven runs. "We were really pleased. I feel like offensively we have been on a roll and we have started to get into the flow," said head coach Karen Mullins.

"All three [Brown] pitchers came in, and I felt like we made good adjustments and hit the ball hard."

Although the Huskies were not able to put anything over the fence, a total of seven doubles were hit, many bouncing off the fence.

"I thought we were seeing the ball pretty well and trying to stay back on the pitchers," said junior designated hitter Allie Gendron. Justyne Roy had similar thoughts.

"I felt pretty confident today they weren't throwing it by us, we just had to sit back and wait for it," said Roy, who finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.

There simply wasn't enough relief in the state of Rhode Island for the pitchers that took the mound for Brown.

"I think we are deep and that makes a difference, you can usually take a breath after the first couple of batters in the line-up, but you can't afford to do that with us," Mullins said. "With Micah [Trunx] in the fifth position and Allie Gendron in the sixth if you take a breath the ball is going to go out of the park."

The Huskies offense has gotten into a deep groove in the middle of the season and has made pitchers look into the bullpen to see if anyone is coming to help.

"We have been doing our hitting drills that we have done all season; I think that once we got back and we started playing every day I think it made a huge difference," Mullins said. "Seeing live pitching every day, the kids get into the flow."

With the flow the offense is in, the Big East conference must take notice. The Huskies are confident and hitting a lot.
