A group of UConn defenders including Robert McClain (42) and Gary Wilburn (21) will storm Rentschler Field for the first time since November 23 of last year in Saturday's Blue-White game.

A year ago today, the UConn football team entered its annual Blue-White spring game with some serious question marks - especially at linebacker.

But with a breakout performance a year ago that included two interceptions and a touchdown, then-unknown redshirt freshman Scott Lutrus cemented a place in the starting line-up for the fall and never looked back. He finished third on the team with 107 tackles last season and was named a freshman All-American along with the team's other outside linebacker, Lawrence Wilson. A year later, there aren't many questions surrounding that position.

"We all know what Scott is," defensive coordinator Todd Orlando said. "He's a big, strong competitive kid with good speed and power."

Lutrus will play middle linebacker with Wilson and Dahna Deleston manning the outside for the white team, which is composed of the first-team defense and second-team offense.

The blue team, comprised of the first-team offense and second-team defense, will be anchored by running backs Donald Brown and Andre Dixon, both of whom are coming off of stellar seasons.

Brown has drawn rave reviews from the coaching staff thus far in spring and is happy to be 100 percent after battling through a shoulder injury last spring and a sprained ankle in the fall.

"I feel a lot better because I'm healthy," Brown said. "I'm excited to just go out there and have fun, that's what this game is all about. You want to still win and be competitive, though."

In order to do that, the Blue team will rely on the arm of Notre Dame transfer Zach Frazer, who steps in as the first-string quarterback after Tyler Lorenzen was ruled out for the game with an ankle injury. Frazer will get his first taste of live game-action since 2006 when he was a senior in high school. He redshirted his freshman season at Notre Dame and sat out last year as a transfer.
