Letter To The University Community Regarding Spring Weekend
Past Spring Weekend celebrations have shown us that most people enjoy the weekend in a responsible manner. Unfortunately, some people remain intent on violating the law and engaging in dangerous or destructive behavior. This negative behavior is not acceptable within our university community. Our law enforcement response will be directed toward addressing those persons engaging in such behavior by arresting and removing them. For those in our community who want to gather for a safe and fun spring weekend and concert, I would ask that you act responsibly and safely. Dangerous behavior can ruin the events for the thousands of students who want to enjoy the weekend. I especially want to emphasize the following:
1. There should be no violence of any kind. You cannot engage in physical fighting. You cannot throw rocks and bottles, etc., at any other human - be they a fellow student or emergency response personnel.
2. You cannot light fires - fires cause great injuries and can burn woods and threaten housing. This includes all of our Mansfield neighbors.
3. You cannot destroy public or private property, specifically homes, rooms or cars.
Please spend a few minutes prior to the weekend, planning where and in what situation you want to be in once the weekend is over. For most of you, a great emphasis is put on good grades, educational goals and future career paths. Being injured or arrested can greatly affect your future.
The guide to your behavior is fairly simple. You should not choose to participate in dangerous behavior. If you believe that an act that you see is wrong, it probably is. One student leader put it this way, "If people don't act like jerks, we can party" and I agree with that statement.
Please accept my thanks in advance for planning a safe Spring Weekend.

Max, it's called commentary. Thomas is not a news reporter. For a commentary you state your opinion, back it up with fact or evidence and call it a day. (Continued…)
