Now that the academic year is reaching an end, the time for summer fun is upon us. And not all the enjoyable summer fun will be at some far off vacation spot - right at your local movie theater.

This is the time the masses of movie lovers have all been waiting for - that exciting time in which the movie studios put out all of their big-budget blockbusters. Here are some of the most anticipated movies of the summer of 2008.

Iron Man

Set to hit the movie theaters this Friday, "Iron Man" aims to please a wide audience - from comic book-lovers to kids to people just looking for an adrenaline ride. Robert Downey Jr. plays Tony Stark, a playboy billionaire industrialist who, after building and using an armoured suit to escape a life-threatening situation, decides to use his technology to battle against wrongdoers, including the Iron Monger (Jeff Bridges). While not true to the original comic book, "Iron Man" plays off of the contemporary post- Sept. 11 world, as seen when Tony Stark first becomes Iron Man in Afghanistan, and it is sure to both entertain and connect with audiences.

Speed Racer

The Wachowski Brothers, who directed "The Matrix" triology, set to transform the Anime cartoon of yesteryear into a vivid, stylized live-action family friendly film with a PG rating. The, which opens May 9, was shot mostly in front of green screens. The film follows Speed Racer (Emile Hirsh), a natural-born racer. However, when he turns down a lucrative deal from a rival racing business, he uncovers a plot in which the races are fixed and Speed and a fellow racer named Racer X, try to save the sport while saving the family business as well.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

This follow up to the 2005 hit "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" shows once again the Pevensie siblings venturing into Narnia which, over 1,000 years time, has passed and an evil king is in power. They must now find Prince Caspian, the true heir, and help him gain power. This film, being released May 16, is more action-packed and CGI filled than its predecessor and set to gain a whole new audience.
