Men's Basketball: Center Did Not Decide On Return Until Last Minute

The deadline to declare for the NBA Draft was Sunday. Had that deadline been two weeks sooner, Hasheem Thabeet would not have been in Gampel Pavilion yesterday practicing in a UConn jersey. He would have been preparing for the NBA. Thabeet said yesterday that he finally decided to return to UConn for his junior season "maybe two days ago" and that he wouldn't have made that same decision two weeks ago. (1) comment

As he watched as names flashed across the screen for two days, including those of teammates, Danny Lansanah admittedly was a bit discouraged. But as this weekend's NFL Draft began to wind down, the former UConn linebacker's phone began to ring. Weather Clouds Vermont Matchup

Last season, the Huskies snuck into the Big East Tournament as the eighth seed and managed to play their way into the championship game against Rutgers. UConn, which now sits at the ninth spot in the conference, will have some work to do in their final 10 games of the season, including series against Notre Dame and Pittsburgh, to even get the chance to make that run again. The softball team is reeling after getting swept by DePaul and Notre Dame in doubleheaders over the weekend, dropping them into a tie for fifth in the Big East and extending their current losing-streak to five games. UConn has shown resiliency after prior struggles this season, overcoming an 0-5 start to climb near the top of the conference standings. (0) comments

Actually, the octopus plays a part in one of the greatest playoff traditions in all of sports.
