Must-Haves For A Great Time Grilling

Spring Weekend has come and gone, and thousands of UConn students have had an adequate chance to enjoy the warmer weather and sunshine. And when the temperature rises, so does the tendency of hanging outside around the grill with friends.
"Everything is so much nicer in the summer," said Kady Lee, a 4th-semester history and Spanish double major. "I really look forward to grilling outside and just chilling with my friends by the beach. It's what summer's about."
However, there are many things to take into account when planning the perfect barbeque. One mandatory ingredient for any successful barbeque, however, is sun.
Here are some other key ingredients to the perfect barbeque:
Food
Obviously a prime component to any successful shindig, food is first on the list of key ingredients. Typical barbeque foods consist of burgers, hot dogs, salad, coleslaw, potato salad, French fries and numerous bags of chips, among other items. However, there is no rule that says the host or hostess can't expand upon the usual.
At your next barbeque, try putting skewers of shrimp, steak and/or vegetables on the grill. Shishkabobs are not only easy to eat, but they allow color (through different types of peppers and other vegetables) to be present on the table.
If skewers aren't your forte, then try putting a rack or two of ribs on the grill. To increase variety, make a mixture of spices into a dry rub and coat one rack, while simply basting the other rack with the barbeque sauce of your choice.
However, keep in mind the dietary needs of guests that may be attending your event. This means make sure there are vegetarian and low-carb options available.
Atmosphere
"Depending on the theme of your party, you may or may not want to purchase decorations," according to bbqs.gardeningnatural.com. "Festive decorations can be found at any local party or general store. You may also consider purchasing decorations that can be stored and reused at a different time, such as reusable tablecloths and Tiki torches."
