UConn will hold pre-game ceremonies before the men’s Monday basketball game and the women’s Wednesday basketball game to honor Friday’s school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut.

“Our hearts and thoughts are with those who lost their lives, and those left behind,” wrote President Herbst in an email sent to UConn students and faculty on Friday. “Let us be sure to give them all the support and help they may need in the days and months ahead.”

Fans are asked to be in their seats by 6:50 p.m. for the ceremonies. The UConn men will play Maryland Eastern Shore on Monday and the women will play Oakland on Wednesday. Both games are at the XL Center in Hartford and begin at 7 p.m.

The UConn men’s and women’s basketball teams will wear green patches with the letters ‘SH’ in white on their jerseys to represent Sandy Hook’s school colors of green and white. UConn athletic staff at the games will wear green and white ribbons to show their support.
