Signs at Insomnia Cookies, the latest eatery to open in Storrs Center, label the dozen kinds of cookies the store offers. Fresh brownies, cookie cakes, ice cream and ‘cookiewiches’ are also available for hungry patrons to buy.

Bored with UConn’s restaurant scene? Tired of the Dairy Bar, FroyoWorld and the Blue Cow when it comes to dessert? Want to try something new and delicious? You’re in luck.

Storrs Center’s newest addition, Insomnia Cookies, located at 1 Dog Lane around the corner from FroyoWorld, has your newest addiction waiting to happen. The newest take-out place on campus delivers–you guessed it–cookies, straight to your door, giving the Freshman 15 even more ammo in its war against students.

“The concept was built around the fact that when you are up late studying, or even after a night out, there are limited late night food options, especially delivered right to your door,” said Insomnia Cookies marketing manager Renee Sarnecky. “UConn was in need of another late night food delivery option and the campus goes along with all we look for when choosing a location.”

There are currently 26 stores, mostly in college towns, and more are expected to open nationwide in the next upcoming months.

UPenn graduate Seth Berkowitz created the franchise in 2003. Why open just another pizza joint or fast food restaurant when Berkowitz had the uniquely original idea of delivering cookies right to dorm rooms or even to the library for a late night snack?

Cookies and brownies are made constantly throughout the day to guarantee freshness. Once they are baked, they are kept in a special “warmer” to make sure they are hot and delicious no matter what time you place your order.

Insomnia Cookies’ top selling cookies include chocolate chunk, oatmeal raisin, sugar and snickerdoodle.

“My personal favorite is the S’mores deluxe,” Sarnecky said. “I’m addicted!”

If that’s not delicious enough, their brownies come with additional toppings, such as mint chocolate, white chocolate chip and Snickers, among various other options. And if your cookie experience can’t be complete without milk, rest assured that there’s a cooler full of  rests in the corner of the store.

Insomnia Cookies is great to have year round, but students might be most vulnerable to its call during the most stressful times of year, midterms and finals weeks.

“We put out a bunch of great deals around midterms and finals time,” said Sarnecky. If you sign up for the store’s newsletter via Insomnia Cookies’ Facebook page, the specials and deals will be sent straight to your inbox. It really doesn’t get much easier than that. The most popular deal they run is called the “Study Break Special.”

In honor of their UConn grand opening, representatives will be handing out flyers for free cookies around campus. There is an additional celebration for the store’s opening; people ordering delivery can get three chocolate chunk cookies for only 2 dollars.

Otherwise, cookies go for $1.25 each, with brownies and deluxe cookies (triple chocolate chip, chocolate peanut butter cup and s’mores deluxe) sold for $2.50.

Ice cream, cookies a la mode, and cookie sandwiches are also available; ice cream ranges from $3 for a small cup to $10 for a quart, a la mode cookies range from $4.75 to $5.50 and ice cream sandwiches start at $4.

Insomnia Cookies is open to cater parties and events. For more information call 1-877-63-COOKIE, or visit www.insomniacookies.com.
