The UConn Huskies took on the Syracuse Orange and the Maine Black Bears this weekend, winning both games by a score of 1-0.
Junior Riley Houle scored the deciding goal against the Maine Black Bears from 10 yards out on the right side of the box a mere 9 minutes and 39 seconds into the game as the Huskies reigned supreme.
Freshman Rachel Hill would be the difference make in the second game of the weekend, scoring an unassisted goal at the 42:28 mark of the first half. Hill beat the Orange goalie, making a move towards the left side of the goal and firing on the empty net.
UConn’s defense and goaltending has been on fire this season. In fact, they haven’t given up a goal in 4 games. Freshman goalie Emily Armstrong had another strong performance against the Syracuse yesterday as she blanked the Orange on the way to her fourth consecutive shutout.
“I’m super excited right now,” said Armstrong. “It definitely shows how our defense is getting more comfortable with each other. We’re coming together really well”.
The young UConn goalie hasn’t given up a goal since the Huskies played the Stanford Cardinal two weeks ago in a 1-0 loss.
Armstrong will look to continue this stretch of shut outs, while the rest of the defense should keep up their recent success. It looks like the defensively led Huskies will be a major threat come conference schedule time.
The weekend’s games, puts the Huskies record at 4-2. The Huskies next game is on Friday at 7:30 p.m. as they take on Boston University.
