The UConn women’s lacrosse team will play their second game of the season on the road against Boston College. The Huskies will travel to Massachusetts to take on the Boston College Eagles this Wednesday in a huge match up early on in the season.
UConn played their first game last Saturday against Iona. The team proved to be a dominant force with a 12-2 victory over their opponent. They have the upmost confidence going into the season after their first big win.
“I think it’s really exciting we are in season finally. I think last Saturday was a really good team win, we had a lot of positives on both sides of the ball and in transition a lot of our players did really nice things,” head coach Katie Woods said. “So the excitement of it and the nerves of the first game are past but we have a huge test coming up.”
Although UConn has had fantastic past seasons, Boston College has always tripped them up. For the past two seasons, Boston College has defeated UConn 19-11 and 11-8. This year UConn is hopeful they will come back from Boston with a victory.
“Every year is a new team and this year is very different than last year in a lot of ways. So that I think we can play that to our advantage,” Woods said. “We have a lot of athleticism and confidence right now, but I think there is also just a different sense of urgency led by our 13 seniors, and I think it could be really interesting. We are planning to try and get them out of their comfort zone and see how they react to it.”
Boston College has played three games this season compared to UConn’s one. The Eagles beat Holy Cross 17-8 and Vanderbilt 13-8. However in their last game, Boston College fell to Ohio State. This loss puts the team out of their comfort zone, and UConn plans to capitalize on it.
“I think for us we want to come out really hard in the first few minutes of the game and make a statement of how the game is going to go and see if we can catch them on their heels or if they are ready for it,” Woods said. “ I’m sure they are chomping at the bit trying to get back out there after the loss to Ohio State. I think we want to get in there are really make a statement in the first few minutes of the game for sure.”
Boston College is a huge test for the Huskies, especially this early in the season. Winning this game will not only show their dedication and hard work, but also prove their skills and capabilities as a team. The Huskies are eager to prove themselves and beat the Eagles for the first time in three years. UConn will be put to the test in hopes to remain undefeated thus far.
