The UConn baseball team started its season 1-2 in Florida last weekend.

The UConn softball team got off to a rocky start to the season this past weekend, dropping two games while winning one at the Georgia Classic.

The Huskies split their first day in action on Friday, cruising past Western Illinois but then falling to the hosting No. 14 Georgia Bulldogs.

In the opening match-up, the Huskies fell behind early 1-0 on an error but quickly responded with a Kim Silva triple to right and then a score on a Leatherneck error, sparking a three-run first inning. The last run of the game for the Huskies came from senior outfielder Jen Ward on an RBI single by sophomore catcher Andrea Huelsenbeck. Junior Kiki Saveriano pitched seven innings en route to her first win of the season, as the Huskies took the game 4-2.

Later Friday, the Huskies started off even with the Bulldogs as they headed into the bottom of the second tied 1-1. But the Huskies struggled offensively against the Bulldogs for the rest of the day, grabbing only two hits off Georgia hitting en route to an 8-1 loss. Senior Ali Adelman earned the loss after a six run 3 2/3 inning performance.

Rain delays canceled two of the games this weekend and postponed UConn's match against Tennesse Tech until Sunday, when the Huskies held a 3-1 advantage in the bottom of the third inning. But when the match resumed, the Golden Eagles pulled ahead 5-3 after a four run third inning. Tennessee Tech eventually went on to take the game 8-7, with Kiki Saveriano taking the loss after giving up eight earned runs.

The Huskies return to action in two weeks when they head back down south for the Charleston Southern Tournament. There, UConn will face off against Wisconsin, Kanas and the hosting Charleston Southern.
