Huskies to host invitational on home courts

This weekend the UConn men’s tennis team will be holding their fall invitational. Seven universities will be attending.

The Huskies have kicked off their season at a strong pace and plan to keep it that way. They won several of the double tandems at the Fairfield Doubles Invitational as well as at the Brown Invitational. Last week they had an astonishing 7-0 victory over one of their biggest rivals, the Hartford Hawks. In both singles and doubles play the men have demonstrated tremendous determination for the white and blue.

Beginning today and continuing through the weekend will be the UConn Fall Invitational. The Huskies will compete amongst Sacred Heart, UHart, Quinnipiac, Fairfield, BU, Bryant University and Merrimack.

The Hartford Hawks have had one previous match this season against the Huskies. Earlier in the season the Sacred Heart Pioneers obtained a 5-2 victory over St. Francis (NY), as well as competed last weekend in the United States Tennis Association Collegiate Invitational. The invitational was held at the Billie Jean National Tennis Center, the famous venue of the U.S. Open.

The Quinnipiac Bobcats kicked off their season alongside six other schools at the Stony Brook Invitational in Stony Brook, N.Y. Senior Alex Lazerowich won one of the singles flights.

The Fairfield Stags kicked off their season with a 7-0 victory over Rider University.

BU opened their season at the Brown Invitational, where two of the Terriers earned singles victories in their perspective flights.

Bryant had a motivating open to their season with junior Bulldog Vidith Huot winning at the Brown Invitational two weeks ago.

The Merrimack Warriors also opened their season with the Brown Invitational, where many of their new players gained experience.

The UConn Invitational starts today on the home courts. Come out and cheer on the Huskies to victory.
