The UConn men’s tennis team will host the UConn Invitational this weekend, as many teams will travel to Storrs to compete.
UConn has had an outstanding start to the fall season by winning all three of their matches. On two occasions they shut out their opponent 7-0 and the other time in comeback fashion to win 7-6. The undefeated start has been nice for the Huskies, but coach Michael Louis knows the upcoming schedule is going to get harder.
“We’re definitely going to hit it pretty hard in practice in the coming days to get ready for our tournament this weekend and the schedule ahead of us because the competition is going to get harder,” Louis said after the victory on Tuesday.
The Huskies practiced the past two days to try and fix some things that they needed to work on. Louis pointed out that he wanted his team to get better on transitioning, finishing points and setting the tone of matches.
The tournament this weekend will be the second one the Huskies have participated in this year. UConn opened up the season at the Brown Invitational, putting in a decent showing at Brown a few weeks back but now that the Huskies have had a few matches under their belt, they will look to have a solid performance this weekend.
The home-court advantage should help the Huskies this weekend. They have yet to lose a match in doubles or singles in two matches at home this year.
The tournament will take place all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
