Game of the weekend:  New Orleans Saints 31-17 win over the Indianapolis Colts, Super Bowl XLIV (Sun.)

Pigs still can’t fly, but the New Orleans Saints are super bowl champions.  Although on paper this appeared to be a close matchup, there seemed to be a general consensus amongst the sports media and fans alike that the Colts would win this game.  Down 10-6 to begin the second half, the Saints shocked everybody by kicking and recovering an onside kick. The Saints took advantage of the short field and scored a touchdown on a 16-yard touchdown pass to Pierre Thomas to take a 13-10 lead.  The game was back and forth for the remainder of the second half until Peyton Manning threw a costly interception that was returned for a touchdown, giving the Saints a 31-17 lead with just over three minutes to play.

Top performers:  Lebron James (Sat.), Drew Brees (Sun.)

In a game against his potential future team, Lebron James demonstrated why he is the best player in the NBA.  James completely dominated the Knicks on Saturday, scoring 48 points while dishing out eight assists and grabbing eight rebounds.
Drew Brees has been one of the most underrated quarterbacks in the league for his entire career.  Brees played a spectacular game on the biggest stage in sports, throwing for 288 yards and two touchdowns while completing 32-39 passes. Peyton Manning may have the more accomplished career, but right now Brees is the best quarterback in the NFL.

Big letdown:  No. 10 Texas Longhorns 71-80 loss to the Oklahoma Sooners (Sat.)

The Longhorns keep falling  further away from their early season ranking of number one.  After falling behind by 18 points in the first half, the Longhorn were able to cut the lead to five points with two minutes to play, but were unable to finish the comeback.  Free throw shooting was once again a huge problem for the Longhorns, shooting an abysmal 10 of 27 from the line.
