The UConn volleyball team will fly down to Florida to play two American Athletic Conference foes Central Florida and South Florida this weekend.
The Huskies first match-up will come tonight in Orlando, Fla. against the Knights.
The Knights come into the match at 10-4, with a win in their only conference match and an 8-1 record at home. UCF went on a six-game winning streak early in the year after an opening loss to Valporasio and did not lose a set for five straight matches.
The Knights are led in kills by their 6-foot-3 redshirt senior Angelica Crump, who has 204. Crump was also a member of the preseason All-American Conference team. Junior Delaina Sarden has also been an offensive force for the Knights, chipping in 186 kills for UCF.
UCF is led defensively by junior Jade Hayes who has 245 digs on the year. Freshman Taylor Gallant is right on her teammate’s heels with 236 digs.
The Huskies will then head south to Tampa to take on the USF Bulls on Sunday at noon.
The Bulls are currently 9-6 overall on the season. USF has lost their only conference match-up to in-state rival UCF, getting swept 3-0. The Bulls are 4-3 at home.
USF is led offensively by sophomore outside hitter Erin Fairs, who has accumulated 189 kills. A redshirt freshman, Kayla Bivins, has provided the team with 122 kills on the year as well.
The Bulls are led in digs by Bivins with 243. Her teammate, freshman Amy Van Zant, also has reached 200 digs on the season with 206.
The Huskies enter the weekend 8-8 on the year after losing both of their games last weekend to conference foes Houston and Southern Methodist. The Huskies will once again be without co-captain Devon Maugle, as they search for ways to win without her.
