The UConn’s women’s tennis team will face the Quinnipiac Bobcats today at 1:30 p.m.

The women have a 1-3 spring season record. They beat the Bryant Bulldogs last week 6-1 but fell to Cincinnati, Stony Brook and Army.

UConn showcased solid singles play and doubles play in its match against the Bulldogs.

"The team came out strong in doubles, which was great to see," said Director of Tennis Glenn Marshall.

In last weekend’s match against Stony Brook, UConn’s Lucy Nutting, seed 3, earned the only win thanks to her aggressive groundstrokes. She fought long and hard in a grueling 1-6, 6-4, 17-15 match.

In doubles play, many of the tandems lost in the tiebreaker.

Against Army, Nutting brought home a 7-5, 6-2 victory. No. 2 Srna Stoslejevic also won in a 6-7 (4), 6-2, 6-3 match. Sophomore Maxene Weinberg, UConn’s No. 1 seed, took the first set 6-3, but lost the second set 6-2 and the third set 6-4.

In doubles Abby McKeon and Nutting lost 8-2, Weinberg and Stoslejvic lost 8-5 and Jen Learmonth and Marie Gargiulo lost 8-4.

The Huskies will face the Bobcats, whom they defeated last spring, today at the East Hartford Racquet Club. The Bobcats hold a 1-1 season record, having beat Albany last week 6-1 and losing to UMass Sunday 6-1. Senior captain Rachel Cantor, who obtained her 109th victory, earned the Bobcat’s only win.
